2nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Join us for our 2nd annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Thursday, December 1, at 6:30 pm! This will take place at our newly planted 15+ foot Evergreen tree, located at the corner of Main and Mill Street, on the courthouse square. Please arrive a few minutes early, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, and be on hand to celebrate the initial lighting of the tree! Hometown Harmony will join us by singing Christmas carols and the Waterloo Lions will provide cookies – it’s an old-fashioned, fun event!

We’ll also announce the Christmas Walk Winners, Lamppost decorating contest winners, and the winner of the Storefront Decorating Contest!

Only in Waterloo will you find this wonderful tradition!! On the Eight Nights before Christmas, Santa and his helpers travel through the residential areas in Waterloo to spread joy and good cheer! All who come outside to greet Santa will receive a special gift!

So, be ready! Set your coats and shoes by the front door so that you can run outside to greet Santa when he arrives.

Don’t worry – you should easily be able to hear his upcoming arrival – a lead car provided by the City of Waterloo, with flashing green and red lights and playing Christmas music, will precede the Santa float!

First Annual Waterloo Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Join us on Thursday, December 3rd, 6:30 pm, for the 1st Annual Official Waterloo Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, taking place at the Monroe County Courthouse Square at the corner of Mill and Main Street.

The Waterloo Chamber of Commerce is pleased to coordinate this new tradition, which will include a 20ft real Christmas tree, adorned with 4,000 Christmas lights and a Christmas star tree topper.

The tree will arrive in Waterloo with the Waterloo Optimists’ annual Christmas trees, and will be installed by the City of Waterloo. Monroe County Electric Co-Operative will decorate the tree with 4,000 Christmas lights to finish the look!

Special thanks to George Obernagel for sponsoring the Christmas tree, and to the Monroe County Commissioners for permission to display the tree on the courthouse square.

Hot Chocolate will be served. Please join us as we light the tree!

Please email all your Open Houses, Concerts, Christmas Programs, and other Holiday events to the chamber at Chamber@htc.net and we will add your information to our community calendar as well as to this flyer.

2013 Waterloo Christmas Walk

The Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after Thanksgiving signal the official start of the Christmas Season, and what better way to celebrate it than in our beautiful, historic Waterloo!!

Skip the huge crowds at the malls and have a truly memorable weekend shopping at our small businesses, dining at our local restaurants, and enjoying the true holiday spirit of Christmas!

Enjoy 3 days of shopping and dining, then be sure to get a great viewing spot for the 2nd annual GLOW Holiday Lighted Parade, taking place Saturday at 5:30 pm! Following the parade, walk over to SPPS grade school and enjoy a chili dinner!

On Sunday, be sure to stop by the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce’s office at 118 E. Third Street to vote for your favorite decorated lamppost!! 19 of the lampposts around the courthouse have been transformed into Christmas works of art! Vote for your favorite between Noon and 3pm. We’ll award prizes at 4pm!

Don’t forget to enjoy a free carriage ride and a visit with Santa on both Saturday and Sunday! Bring the kids for a wonderful, slower-paced weekend. You’ll be so glad you did!

The weekend after Thanksgiving is a great time to shop and enjoy our wonderful Community! Book your weekend now and enjoy an old-fashioned “Christmas on the Square” in downtown Waterloo! Our merchants are ready  and able to help you with your Christmas gift shopping all weekend long. If you visit all of the participating merchants, you’ll be entered into a drawing to receive a fantastic prize! Be sure to ask about this opportunity at your FIRST shopping stop.

Santa will be in his hut at the Square on Saturday and Sunday, ready to meet with your children to discuss all-important gift giving ideas! Bring your camera for a special photo op!

Be sure to enjoy a free carriage ride in beautiful downtown Waterloo also. Horse-drawn rides will be available on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday evening, November 30, grab your favorite parade viewing spot on Main Street to enjoy the GLOW holiday lighted parade! It is quickly becoming a great tradition in our wonderful community.

The Waterloo Chamber is sponsoring the Christmas Lamppost Decorating Contest again this year and we want everyone to come out on Sunday afternoon to view the beautifully decorated lampposts and to vote for your favorite! First and Second place will be selected by judges, with the People’s Choice Award determined by YOU! Voting takes place between Noon – 3pm on Sunday, December 1.

Of course, there will be refreshments to enjoy and so much more all weekend long. It is a wonderful weekend and we invite you to enjoy it with us.
