Monroe County’s Friends in Stitches Quilt Guild will hold their first quilt show, “March into Spring” on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 522 South Church Street in Waterloo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.   An admission fee of $3 is being charged.

“March into Spring” will present over 100 quilts for you to view, along with Antique Quilt Bed Turnings at 10 a.m. and noon.  The quilt show will include a boutique where many homemade items will be available for purchase.  A scissor sharpening service will be provided by The Machine Shop.

Some of the vendors at the quilt show include:  J&S Crafts and Woodworking, Bernina @ Fancyworks, The Machine Shop, Crafty Creations by Evy, Raccoon Hollow Fabrics, Felt & Soul/Illini Alpacas, Tabitha’s Tutu Closet, Thirty One Gifts, Celebrating Home, Pampered Chef and Seeds of Blessing.

The Friends in Stitches Quilt Guild is currently in their second year.  In their first year they assembled the quilts for the City of Waterloo’s 125th Anniversary celebration.  One is currently on display at City Hall.  Local projects the guild is currently involved with are the Barn Quilt Trail for Monroe County and the Home Teams Smithsonian exhibit that will be at the Monroe County History Museum this summer.

The guild meets on the first Tuesday of the month at Hope Christian Church, 9273 Coach Stop in Columbia at 7 p.m.  New members are always welcome.

Meetings consist of a variety of activities:  speakers, demonstrations, sit n’ sew projects, block of the month instructions, mystery quilt assembly, and show & tell.  Checkout the Friends in Stitches Quilt Guild Monroe County Facebook page for pictures.  For more information on becoming a quild member contact Jan Whelan at jlwhel@htc.net or 618-281-8419.

Quilting has a long tradition in Monroe County.  Come to the quilt show March 29th and as we “March into Spring.”
